Chicane setup

Radiation delivered at both end stations ID23-1 (tuneable wavelength) and ID23-2 (fixed wavelength) are produced by two different and independant insertion devices (Undulators) positioned in the straight section 23. Both undulators and the radiation they produce are seprated by an angle of 1.5 mrad (see figure below for details) inserted in a chicane system with an angle of 0.750 mrad each.

Undulators

Undulator U35 installed downstream radiates at -0.750 mrad from the straight section axis. It is 1.6 m long with a periodicity of 35 mm and it is the undulator providing X-rays to ID23-1 end-station. It has been chosen to access a wide range of energy enabling SAD and MAD data collection from 4.3 to 20keV, respectively from 2.88 Å to 0.62 Å (see below for output flux versus energy graph).

Undulator U20.2 producing X-ray for ID23-2 end-station is installed upstream and radiates at +0.750 mrad from the straight section axis. It is 1.6 m long with a periodicity of 20.2 mm. With only one harmonic, U20.2 undulator is less tuneable in term of energy range than U35 undulator. However and because ID23-2 has been designed as a monochormatic end-station at 14 keV, the flux provided by such device is twice as the output flux of an undulator U35.
