The Independent on a visit to Grenoble

The UK broadsheet newspaper The Independent recently visited Grenoble to attend a briefing on the GIANT partnership which the ESRF has established along with seven other research centres and universities, all neighbours on the "Polygone scientifique".
The objective of GIANT is to closely cooperate in key areas of research so as to rival, in the longer term, the world's leading innovation campuses such as MIT and Cambridge. This will not require any merging of existing entities and institutes: "Giant is the co-ordination of an existing place, not the creation of a place," was how a main player described how Grenoble and with it the ESRF envisage their future.
