Sepiolite is a porous clay material that can absorb more liquid than any other known mineral. A Franco-Spanish team of scientists used X-ray and electron single-crystal diffraction to resolve the structure of the tiny sepiolite crystals. The results open the path to their synthesis, and to the design of completely new materials for use in catalysis, energy storage and consumer products.
The Engineer, the UK's biggest magazine and website for technology and innovation, covered the story.
Several other hi-tech media like gizmodo.com also wrote about these results to be published in the October issue of the American Mineralogist.
