Scope:

The realization of a High Power Laser Facility at the ESRF has recently been approved. The scientific case is twofold: 1. extend the P and T range reachable today by static compression, to reproduce the conditions of matter in extra solar planets; 2. address the dynamic behaviour of matter under high strain rates, relevant for many industrial processes. This facility will be at first coupled to the XAS beamline ID24; the dynamic compression CDR proposes the extension of applications, with the construction of a new beamline for single shot and fast time resolved XRD and imaging.
