Aim and Scope of the workshop

Materials with possible applications for new electronic devices are one of the main research activities of several groups that carry out experiments at the ESRF. These have resulted in a large number of high impact publications in recent years.

Functional nanomaterials in the fields of electronics have seen an increasing complexity over the last years, in terms of combination and integration of different techniques (micromechanics, microelectronics, spintronics and magnetic or ferroelectric storage, 2D electronic systems). This has enhanced the requests for new characterization methods. The aim of the workshop is to bring together expert scientists in these fields to have a discussion on the problems still open and better understand how the ESRF could help in answering to the open questions and to supply an overview on the most prominent examples of successful application of state-of-the-art synchrotron techniques to materials and devices in the field.

The scientific program will be organized in 6 sessions covering the topics:

  • new techniques
  • graphene and related materials
  • 1D and 2D semiconductors and itinerant electron systems
  • Si and SiGe devices
  • thin films, interfaces and pseudo-substrates: structure and defects
  • organic semiconductors
  • magnetic semiconductors
  • nanomagnetism an magnetism at interfaces
