Optogenetics, the control of light-sensitive proteins for biomedical applications, is revolutionizing our ability to control biological activity at the cellular level. We aim to engineering light-controlled G protein-coupled receptors capable of stimulating signalling pathways by interacting with scaffold proteins in sophisticated networks, thus modulating cell behaviour. We selected Jumping Spider Rhodopsin-1 as a GPCR model to dig into signalling.
