Synopsis

BM23 is a wiggler beamline optimized for high-quality EXAFS in a large energy range (5-75 keV) and oriented towards stability, versatility, automation, online data analysis and flexible sample environments.

Sample environments

  • Gas delivery system and remotely controlled gas mixing setup for reactive gases
  • Chemical reactors and furnaces for in situ studies under controlled temperature, pressure and gas feed (for pellets and powdered samples)
  • Mass-spectrometer for gas composition analysis
  • XAS/DRIFTS setup to measure XAS and DRIFTS spectra simultaneously
  • UV-Vis spectrometer with fiber optics for transmission measurements
  • Multi-sample holder (16 pellets of 5 mm diameter) under controlled atmosphere
  • Liquid He cryostat (4-300K) - pellets
  • Online microscope setup in backscattering geometry for microXRF measurements on large samples
  • Diamond Anvil Cells (up to 150 GPa combinable with cryo-cooling (5K) or resistive heating (1500 K)) combinable with a PRL, XRD, XRF
  • Paris Edinburgh large volume press (17 GPa, 2000K) combinable with XRD and XRF

Detectors

  • Ionization chambers
  • XRF detectors: Hitachi Vortex Si drift detectors ( 1 mm and 2 mm chip thickness for low and high energy detection) coupled to FalconX electronics (offering a high saturation level at 1 million counts) and combinable with a polycapillary for microXRF measurements in the DAC
  • XRD detector: Pilatus 1M (angle-resolved XRD detector for specific applications)
  • Mass spectrometer: Pfeiffer OmniStar GSD 350
  • FTIR spectrometer: Agilent Cary 680 with DRIFTS setup for combined DRIFTS/XAS measurements
  • Online microscope for sample position visualization 
  • A PRL system  for online pressure determination in the DAC
