Aim & Scope

Over the last two decades, Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) has been the most prominent method for the determination of the 3D atomic structure of biomolecules. During that time ID29 has continuously evolved and contributed to the development of new methods that are nowadays well established among the ESRF structural biology user community. The ESRF Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) will provide flux densities unmatched at synchrotron sources. This will change the paradigms of MX data collection even further, opening new avenues in Structural Biology experiments. The EBSL8 project for the upgrade of ID29 aims to take full advantage of the characteristics of the EBS with the construction of a new beamline dedicated to Time Resolved Serial Synchrotron Crystallography at room temperature. This microsymposium will thus both look back at nearly 20 years of activity on ID29 and discuss future opportunities Science post-EBSL8.
