FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the green light given by the ESRF Council for the first phase of the ambitious ESRF Upgrade Programme, in February 2009 Grenoble will be more than ever the place to gather for all European scientist interested in synchrotron radiation and X-rays.

The 19th Users' Meeting will take place at the ESRF site between 2-5 February 2009. This event will feature two associated workshops and a school, coupled with a plenary meeting devoted to recent advances and future directions in science at the facility. Parallel discussion sessions and a joint poster session will give the opportunity to enjoy exciting new science and to debate on future directions.

The plenary session on Wednesday morning (February 4) will be devoted to a hot scientific topic of relevance, and to the present status and the future Upgrade Programme of the facility, with contributions from the ESRF Management. This session will feature a plenary talk by Paul Loubeyre (CEA, DAM/DIF, Bruyères-le-Châtel, France) on science at high pressure, a talk by Dennis Mills (Argonne National Laboratory, USA) on the APS Upgrade and a talk by the winner of the Young Scientist Award.

The afternoon session of the plenary day consists of parallel sessions for each of the seven ESRF Experimental Groups with short invited talks, reports from the Groups, guided discussions on the ESRF Upgrade Programme, as well as the continuation of further sessions of the Associated Workshops. Wednesday's programme will end with a joint poster session and the conference dinner at the ESRF site, where the winner of the Young Scientist Award and the winner of the best poster prize will be announced.

On behalf of the Users Organization, I cordially invite you to Grenoble for an exciting week of science.
