A Brainstorming session bringing together experts from the current and potential future user communities of the NINA and MIA long imaging beamlines, in order to assess the best options for the future upgrade programme.
The “Upgrade Beamlines” (UPBL) projects 4 and 5 were presented to the ESRF Scientific Advisory committee (SAC) as possible beamlines for Phase I of the ESRF upgrade. The result of the SAC meeting at the end of 2007 was that both of these long imaging beamlines figured on the list of 7 beamlines to be built with top priority. However, these projects need to mature and one of the purposes of the Brainstorming is to assess and develop both their scientific aims and the best technical ways to reach these aims.
We have tried to gather a limited number of expert users covering areas of present and possible future research using X-ray imaging techniques, in order to receive input on what UPBLs should offer to the user community. In particular we would appreciate input on:
a) the scientific questions that UPBL 4 and 5 should address
b) the role of these ESRF beamlines with respect to other similar/complementary beamlines in Europe, and
c) ideas for future developments.
The X-ray imaging group team thanks the participants for having accepted this task.
The main goal of the meeting is to gather the wishes of the user community for future science to be carried out on this instrument. Follow the links below to :
