An introduction to beamline engineering.
This lecture will attempt to explain in basic terms the difficulties encountered, and the solutions adopted, when constructing the hardware of a 3rd generation light source beamline. Some of the generic and "standard" building blocks that make up our tailor made instruments will be investigated.
