(Image) Data Formats are very boring.

but standardized/common formats are

VERY NECESSARY.
Initiatives like NOBUGS aim to increase software sharing.

The best practical method, and often the only method which works practically, is a shared file format.

Obviously this is best if it is truly international.
This presentation will concentrate on one important aspect of scientific image data storage: data compression.
