BLISS is the new ESRF control system for running experiments, with a full deployment envisioned by the end of the EBS upgrade program in 2020. BLISS exhibits a global approach to running synchrotron experiments, thanks to hardware integration, Python sequences as well as an advanced scanning engine. Very much like a Python package, BLISS can be easily embedded in any Python application and its data management features enable online data analysis. In addition, BLISS ships with tools to enhance scientists/users experience and facilitate integration on ESRF beamlines. After delineating all aspects of the BLISS project from beamline device configuration up to an integrated user interface, this talk will explain the technical choices that drove the design of BLISS and will illustrate in depth its software architecture and technology stack.
