SAXS data reduction

The processing of the raw SAXS patterns consists of a series of corrections, followed by an azimuthal integration between specified limits. Specific Matlab programs have been created for BSL, edf, tiff and hdf5/nexus  data.

The following corrections are applied to the SAXS images:

  • normalization of the image with respect to the intensity of the incident beam
  • q calibration; we often use silver behenate (moderate to high q range) or rat tail collagen (low q)
  • correction for sample transmission and background subtraction
  • masking of unwanted pixels
  • azimuthal integration (using pyFAI)
  • intensity calibration in cm-1 (if used)
  • invariant calculation.

Below we present an illustration of SAXS data reduction using one of our Matlab programs calling fit2d (in a Linux environment).
