Badge

Each person on the common ESRF/ILL/EMBL site is expected to have a badge. This badge is given at the site entrance provided the authorization for site entrance has been given.

This badge must be presented for passing the gate at the site entrance. Moreover, the ESRF Experimental Hall an the Central Building (outside normal working hours)  are under controlled access. The badge provided at the site entrance gives access to these buildings. The badge is valid for the duration of the experiment. The use of the badge is strictly personal. Badges must be worn visibly at all times on site. At the end of your experiment, before you leave the ESRF, you must return your badge and its holder at the site entrance.

Accommodation & Meals

Users invited for experiments will be accommodated in the Guesthouse (depending on room availability) provided the request for accommodation arrangement is made through the electronic A Form. The Guesthouse is located on site, to the right to the main gate as you enter.

Breakfast
is served in the Guesthouse.

Other meals are served in the joint ILL / ESRF canteen on site. If you wish to have your meals at the canteen, the request must be made in advance, by marking the request box "canteen card" on the A Form.

The onsite cafeteria, featuring an open-air terrace, is located in a satellite building next to the restaurant. From 10:00am to 3:00pm a "Take away counter" offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, fruits and snacks, etc. You can pay with your canteen card, in cash or by credit card.

How to pay your meals at the ILL/ESRF common restaurant

Your SITE ENTRANCE BADGE is used for the payment of your meals at the ILL/ESRF restaurant.

See "Travel, Accommodation & Meals" page for details.

Computing

How to use the WiFi Network on the ESRF site

During your visit you may wish to connect a LAPTOP to the ESRF network on the beamlines.

You are allowed to do so, provided that your computer has an up-to-date anti-virus program which has recently scanned your computer. Please get in touch with your Local Contact or with the Computing Services if you require help.

Please note that it is possible to use the WiFi network in the Experimental Hall, the Central Building, the ESRF Guesthouse, and at the PC-corner next to the Auditorium, to connect directly to the Internet for reading your e-mail.

Library

You are welcome to consult books and periodicals in the joint ILL/ESRF Library, which is on the first floor of the Common Building, above the Canteen.  You will not, however, be able to borrow documents.  Please restrict any photocopies to an absolute minimum.

Library opening hours are Monday to Friday, 08h00 to 17h00 (outside opening hours: with your badge).

Use of the library outside opening hours

Should you wish to use the library in the evenings and at weekends, please request the guardians at the site entrance when they prepare your badge to allow you access to the library outside hours.
