Rules to Follow during an Experiment

The Use of Equipment on ID01

Experiment program should be organized by the users in such a way that all intervention which require the beamline staff can be made during "normal" hours (from 8h to 22h).

Risky materials for the beamline experimental equipment are those with an appreciable vapour pressure and/or corrosive or toxic. The users are requested to inform the local contact of any risky materials. For such cases the sample environment must be changed in order to avoid any damage of the experimental set up.

Sensitive materials in the beamline such as detectors, goniometer and optics / monochromator, could be damaged by collisions or the direct beam. If the users are not sure of the risk that an operation could entail, please don't hesitate to consult with the local contact before.

Data storage is limited and we can only assure the users data store during ONE month after the experiment in our work-station. The users should make and test the data transfer in the following weeks after the experiment.

Local Contact and Collaborations

The interaction between the users and the staff may be basically of two different kinds:

Local contact: A person of the beamline staff (the local contact) will help the users to setup and to start the experiment and to provide the necessary information on the latest developments on the beamline. The local contact may also help the users if problems appear. Normally the local contact can be reached by telephone during normal working hours (8 hours to 22 hours).

Collaborations: The users ask someone of the beamline staff to participate in their experiment. Normally the staff member involved should be co-proposer on the Application for beam time at ESRF proposal. The experiment should be discussed in advance and planned in detail. In this case no local contact is needed since beamline personnel are directly involved in the experiment as users and will naturally provide the necessary help.
