The Diffractometer - Experimental Hutch

last modified 12-11-2008 10:01

A heavy load 2+4-circle diffractometer + 2 circle analyzer stage is set up in the big evacuable vessel to perform scattering experiments (bulk or surface) either in the vertical or horizontal scattering planes. Working in the reciprocal space (hkl mode) is also possible.

A picture of the diffractometer:

To get an idea of the movements and related commands please check the sixc spec manuals . Here is a brief description of the motors:

          4-circle part

    theta sample vertical-plane scattering angle
              delta detector vertical-plane scattering angle
    phi sample rotation
chi sample tilt in the plane xz
    + 2-circle
mu sample circles rotation in the horizontal plane (yz).
gamma Detector arm rotation in the horizontal plane (yz).
tau sample translation stage along phi axis
     2 circle analyser
    tha scattering angle of analyser
              oma Bragg angle of analyser
