ID13 Nanofocus Extension
ID13 Nanofocus Extension

During May 2005 work started on the new ID13 beamline extension. The third 'nano-focus' experimental hutch which is currently under construction will put the focusing system at about 90m from the source. This will be capable of providing nanometre scale beams, as well as the possibility of ultra-low divergence for micro-SAXS applications. It is hoped that commissioning of the third hutch will start in autumn of 2006, with negligible disruption to the existing beamline operations. The extension will also house, amongst other things, new ID13 laboratory facilities and a computer cluster dedicated to rapid data analysis. These developments will ensure that whilst other beamlines may also start offering microfocus beams, ID13 continues to be one step ahead of the rest. The photo shows the concrete pillars, which will carry the platform with the experimental building and ensure a high vibrational stability. |
