New sub-micron KB mirror in EH II

The KB mirror has been popular with users ever since it became active in Exp. Hutch II some months ago. Now, the second KB mirror pair (designated KB-II) has been commissioned on ID13.

The new KB mirror is designed to allow for regular sub-micron beams at ID13. This will be of significant benefit to the existing scanning setup and will permit a much higher scanning resolution.

The options for sub-micron beams were limited until recently to 1D waveguide optics. The ability to have a sub-micron beam on both axes (using the KB mirrors) is expected to create many new experimental possibilities.

The new KB-mirror is scheduled to be available for the next user experiments. Other optical systems, like Fresnel optics, are also being tested to provide sub-micron 2D focal spots.
