In-house research: Electronic structure and magnetism

last modified 04-05-2012 11:31

In-house research runs in parallel to beamline operation, helping us to develop and refine techniques while investigating diverse scientific areas. Staff within the group have research projects in several areas.

ID08

  • Electronic and magnetic properties of transition metal oxides
  • Complex magnetism in nano-structures and disordered ferromagnets
  • Transition metal magnetic impurities on surfaces
  • Ferroelectrics, multiferroics

ID12

  • High-magnetic-field XMCD on paramagnets
  • Dynamics of magnetization using X-ray detected magnetic resonance
  • X-ray optical activity in systems with broken space and time reversal symmetry

ID24/BM23

  • Exploration of magnetism using XANES and XMCD covering a large T,P,B parameter space
  • Matter at extreme pressures and temperatures (> 4000 K, > 100 GPa)
  • Materials science: differential XAS studies of local atomic displacements
  • Chemistry: heterogeoenous catalysis; in situ/operando time resolved studies

ID06

  • Strongly correlated electron systems
  • Multiferroics
  • Superconductors
  • Quantum criticality
  • Pulsed magnetic fields
