EDX Alignment Procedure
Today ID27 mostly uses techniques other than energy dispersive X-ray measurement techniques. Under exceptional circumstances, however, it is still possible to use it (to be discussed with the beam line scientists).
- Alignment of the two-theta arm
Put tabrot, tabt and taby at zero
Put the diffracted slits on the two-theta arm as close as possible of the rotation axis (translation stage) and do a green paper.
Do the same operation as far as possible from the rotation axis.
The beam spot must be at the same position on the green paper.
If not, apply a correction on the two theta angle and taby (if necessary).
Close the gap of ds1 (ds1g) down to 0.06 mm and align offsets of ds1 (ds1ho) and ds2 (ds2l)
- Preparation and alignment of fine slits and clean-up
slits
Put spacers between the WC blades of fine slits (typically .02x.02 mm2) and clean-up slits (.02x.1mm2).
Put the fine slits on the bench and a green paper on the back of them. The beam spot must be approximately at the center. If not, move the bench angularly.
Align the slits on the beam one after the other.
