Front-End, safety & fast shutters
There are 3 main shutters on the beam line: the front end, the safety shutter and the fast shutter.
The Front End
The front end (FE) is usually open and should be set in Automatic mode, but occasionally the FE will be shut either because the beam has been lost in the ring or the Automatic mode has run out. If you find that the FE is shut you can open it using the application idappli which runs on ybm16ctrl. To do this click on the idappli icon on the desktop of ybm16ctrl. Then click the Open FE button in the idappli window (shown below) - the FE open indicator should turn green (after ~20 seconds). To set the beamline to Automatic mode (i.e. so that the FE will
open and close automatically during refills) click on the Command menu in idappli and select Set automatic mode from the pull down menu.
The safety shutter
The safety shutter is opened automatically by MXCube during data collections but if for any reason you need to open it manually (for example when doing a manual scan) you can click on the Safety Shutter - Open button in MxCube

or on the safety shutter image in the jVacuum window (which is usually open on yBM16ctrl- shown below).
Click the safety shutter image in the jVacuum window (in pink on the image below) - which will launch a pop-up from which you can open the safety shutter.
The fast shutter
The fast shutter (sometimes called the millisecond shutter) is in the slit box in the experimental hutch and is controlled automatically by MXCube, however, this shutter can also be opened manually either from the MxCuBe GUI

or by typing;
PX> msopen
in the PX spec session running on bm16mach.
