Opening The Front End
The Front End shutter (FE) is usually open and should be set in Automatic mode, but occasionally the FE will be shut eg by the Machine Operator after a beam dump or when the Automatic mode has run out.
If you find that the FE is shut you can open it using the front end application idappli. To open an idappli window on bm16ctrl click on the idappli icon on the desktop. Click the open FE button in the idappli window (shown below) - the FE open indicator should turn green (after ~30 seconds).
Sometimes the FE is shut by the Machine Operators (e.g. during critical refill or machine interventions). The Automatic Mode allows the automatic reopening of the FE after such external interventions. To switch on the Automatic Mode, you have to enter the Command menu of the idappli window and select the Set automatic mode... line. If done correctly, a message with Automatic mode will end in 72h ...will appear in the idappli window.
The Automatic Mode runs over 72hours maximum....The remaining time is systematically refreshed on the idappli window. If the Automatic mode run out of time, the FE will close. You can reactivate the Automatic Mode by first switching off and then switching on again the Automatic Mode. This can be done using the Command menu of the idappli window.
If you do not manage to open the FE, call your local contact or the Experimental Hall Operator (2525).
