Computing staff designs, develops and maintains the ESRF computing architecture and is in charge of: a central computing facility comprising of a compute- and file server cluster with several Terabyte disk arrays for data storage/handling, office and laboratory automation with hundreds of PC based workstations, a management information system based on the latest IT, Intranet, and Internet technologies, high speed networks covering the whole ESRF site with some 80 IP subnetworks and some 1800 active nodes, data acquisition read-out systems on experimental beamlines, control systems for the whole accelerator plant and all beamlines. Staff works with computer aided design tools for software engineering, as well as with mechanical and digital electronic design. In the very fast moving field of computing, the ESRF aims to stay abreast of the latest IT technologies, and thus offers a challenging environment for computer literates
