The Site

The Data communication network links together more than 14 buildings on the site, among them:

  • The Central building: a 6-floor office building with a main computer room on the ground floor. Around 1300 network attachments.
  • The Control building: a Control room and a computer room dedicated to the Machine, i.e. the engine of our facility. Also contains a second computer room. Around 400 network attachments.
  • The Storage ring: 850 meter long; the tunnel separates an inner part where the Machine devices operate, linked together via dedicated Machine networks, and an outer part where the experiments are located: 60 experiment sites are available, the so-called Beamlines.
  • Every Beamline can be considered as an independent set of offices with around 50 network attachments (and several hundreds for the largest beamlines).
  • Offices around the storage ring feature around 1400 network attachments.
  • Several other office or utilities buildings.
  • Links are also provided via a Common building with the other Institutes on the site: ILL (Institut Laue Langevin) and EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory).
