The backbones are distributed by:
- 2 fully redundant Extreme BlackDiamond BD20K switches, 960 Gbps matrix, fully wirespeed and non-blocking
-
3 fully redundant Extreme BlackDiamond BD10K switches, 160 Gbps matrix, capable of routing on a per-port basis
-
13 fully redundant Extreme BlackDiamond BD8810 Aspen switches, 480 Gbps matrix, capable of routing on a per-port basis; as for the BD20K and BD10K switches, the transparent failover and transparent firmware upgrade features are heavily appreciated
-
3 Extreme BlackDiamond BD6K GigabitEthernet switches, 80 Gbps matrix, now used for the management networks (out of band).
-
More than 300 stackable 10/100/1000 switches from Extreme Networks (Summit400-48T, Summit X450e-48p and SummitX650-24X). The stacking technique actually builds virtual and redundant chassis.

- Wireless LANs are also implemented on site, originally based on the Cisco AP1200/1310 product range
and now exploiting lightweight access points managed by central Cisco switches.
