The network administration is vital for such a large and complex network.
This task consumes a lot of resources for its configuration, customization and market follow-up,
but allows to provide an exceptional availability to the network services.
- An HP-Openview NNM (Network Node Manager) platform is installed on a UNIX workstation
SUN V445 with four processors, 2x146GB disks and 16GB RAM) featuring 12 network interfaces.
Alarm events are processed such as to automatically generate email alarms with the help of many shellscripts. - The same platform also runs Extreme Network's EPIcenter management software.
- This server gathers tons of statistics using MRTG/RRD, and provides many Web tools.
- An identical server concentrates all syslogs.
- A Linux PC with several Gigabit Ethernet interfaces allows to capture Gigabit traffic using Ethereal.
- A Fluke LanMeter tool provides detailed hardware/software fault analysis.
- Finally, several PC/Macs laptops are used to configure network devices.
In addition, Radius appliances (Cisco ACS) are used for authentication.
