World Wide Web

No Web access to servers inside the firewall is permitted from outside. Only the so-called public Web servers www.esrf.fr, www.ill.fr, etc. are accessible from the Internet.

The public Web servers contain partial copies of the pages available on the internal Web servers. The copy is performed at fixed intervals.

The information below is relevant for internal users only.

All Internet web accesses must go through proxy servers. Each institute has its own set of proxy servers.

Browsers must be configured to use the proxies. ESRFstaff and users will find detailed instructions on the intranet web site.

When an access to the external Web server is needed from inside (e.g. for checking how an external user sees our pages), then the internal alias wwwext has to be used since the www hostname maps to the internal Web server.
