Internet and The Firewall

Our site is connected to RENATER (French network for Research and Education) via a redundant 1 Gbit/sec metropolitan link. This connection is shared by the ESRF, the ILL (Institut Laue Langevin) and the EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) antenna located in Grenoble. A firewall system protects the internal computers, by filtering the connections coming from external computers (the so-called outside world).

  • ESRF/ILL/EMBL users can access internal UNIX accounts via ssh
  • ESRF users can also access internal resources via the SSL Gateway.
