What can be done without Remote Desktop

last modified 22-09-2009 11:24

When you are at home, you can access the ESRF computing resources via https://ssl.esrf.fr/esrfbasic

This mode requests that you provide your identity: user account and site password. Note: reading your email does not require any authentication.

Once logged in, several operations are possible in addition to the Windows Remote Desktop:

  • browse the official Intranet, including the Pleiades absence, the eGroupWare calendar, and any other internal Web site that you may type in the navigation bar, e.g. http://sympa.esrf.fr
  • bookmarks on the eGroupWare calendar and the ESRF/ILL Library  are available

Note that a technical limitation makes it impossible to modify Web pages via plone

  • access the P: shared storage area (ESRF SMB); if your important files have been moved there before leaving the Office, you will be able to access and modify them

Note that the P: area is limited in size, so large files should not be copied there

  • access the T: shared storage area (TMP_14_DAYS and /tmp_14_days)

Note that the T: area is also limited in size, so large files should not be copied there

Note that everybody can access and modify anybody's files in this area. Please remember that files older than 14 days are automatically deleted.
