Knowing your PC name - Windows XP and Vista

A way to know the PC name of an ESRF computer

This small guide help you locate the name of your PC on an ESRF PC:

Please go the correct subsection depending on Type of PC

For Windows XP PCs

For Windows Vista PCs

 

For Windows XP PCs

  • Locate the Computer Icon (usually on the top left):

  •  Right Click (Not Left Click, since it will open the Computer and show you the disks) and select Properties
    You should see the following picture:

  •  Select the Computer Name tab

  •  The computer name is on the line Full computer name:
    Please ignore the ".esrf.fr"
    . In the above case the name is PCOHLSSON

 

 


For Windows Vista PCs

  • Locate the Computer Icon (usually on the top left):

  • Right Click (Not Left Click, since it will open the Computer and show you the disks) and select Properties

You should see the following picture:

  •  The computer name is on the line Computer name:
    In the above case the name is PCOHLSSON2
