Activate Remote Desktop - Windows XP and Vista

This small guide help you make sure Remote Desktop is activated:

Note that PCs installed after August 2008 should already have this feature activated.

Please go the correct subsection depending on Type of PC

For Windows XP PCs

For Windows XP PCs

• Locate the Computer Icon (usually on the top left):
  

•  Right Click (Not Left Click, since it will open the Computer and show you the disks) and select Properties
  You should see the following picture:
  

•  Select the Remote tab
  

• Make sure Allow users to connect remotely to this computer is selected. If not select it.
• Click on Select Remote Users... You will be presented with:

• Here I see that ESRF\OHLSSON already have access.
• If you are using someone else's computer at ESRF or if your name is not in the list, please add it by clicking on Add..
  Please insert your username preceded by ESRF\
  

• Select OK and you will see:
  

Once you click on OK twice and you are set up to use Remote Desktop.

For Windows Vista PCs

• Locate the Computer Icon (usually on the top left):
  

• Right Click (Not Left Click, since it will open the Computer and show you the disks) and select Properties

Please select Remote settings

• In the Remote settings, the Remote tab should be already selected, otherwise do so:
  

• Make sure that Allow... (less secure) is selected.
• Check that you have the right by clicking on Select Users...

• Here I see that ESRF\OHLSSON already has access.
• If you are using someone else computer or your name is not there, please add it by clicking on Add..
  Please insert your username preceded by ESRF\

• Select OK and you will see:

Once you click on OK twice and you are set up to use Remote Desktop.
