Installation Procedure
The ESRF operates for typical periods of two months spaced with 10 days shutdown of all accelerator facilities. Three weeks shutdown are scheduled during Winter and Summer. The short and rare shutdown periods put tight constraints on the installation of new IDs and the maintenance of the existing ones. With optimal conditions, the installation in the tunnel and testing of a new ID segment can be done in 4 hours. The procedure is the following :
- Remove the concrete blocks on top of the ID section
- Download the ID segment(s)
- Connect all power and signal cables
- Align the ID with respect to the vacuum chamber
- Set the hardware and electrical limit switches
- Set the necessary sofware ressources and test
