The Diagnostics Group - the official description

last modified 24-11-2006 15:57

The Diagnostics group has the responsibility for the detailed study, conception, design, development, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the instruments for measuring the various particle beam and light beam parameters with ultimate precision and resolution.
These instruments utilise a wide range of state-of-the-art technologies: sensors, detectors & pick-up electrodes, ultra-high vacuum, precision mechanics, optics, electronics for conditioning, treatment, acquisition and control of signals, and computer science.
Such diagnostics include electron beam position monitors, current monitor, emittance diagnostic, electron beam imaging, energy spread diagnostics, bunch purity diagnostics, beamloss monitors, scrapers
The group is engaged in making these beam diagnostics fully available to the operation group, in a user-friendly way and with emphasis on reliability.  The same equipment also serves for particular MDT studies in which the group is fully implied.

The group is responsible for some detectors linked with beam interlock systems.
The group is responsible for detectors and equipment used for bunch purity cleaning.
The group is responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of the beam position feedback.

The group is also involved in the development of bunch by bunch feedback in collaboration with the RF group.
